Stew and Thread,

from the Panasonic release yesterday...

The MultiMediaCard is supported by 40 leading industry companies that belong to the MultiMediaCard Association. Besides digital video cameras, the card is also becoming popular in smart phones such as the Nokia 9110 Communicator and in Internet music players including the Pontis Mplayer 3, the LG Electronics A1F and A2F MP3 players, the Maycom Merit MP player and the DNA Pocket Digital Audio MP3 player.

As I mentioned yesterday, CF and MMC are developing in parallel and clearly have market overlap. Thus, if pricing pressure puts alot of squeeze on margins for CF I see MMC stepping up to the plate as a successor. Having looked at an MMC myself I still wonder how they are able to pack so much memory into it. The press release states 64 MB of memory this year and I believe I read upto 128 MB by next year.

Also, MMC appears to have the same functionality as CF with only a handful of pin connections. Is anybody on the thread aware of MMC durability issues and other important features such as write speed? Will MMC become the successor in the digital camera market? Will Eli and crew try to carve out an mp3 niche and let CF dominate digicams? Anybody have a sense of the bigger business plan?

At some point MMC is going to pull the plug on the CF market.

Maybe we should rename MMC???

HOW ABOUT MEGA MARKET CANNIBAL!?!

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I am really tapped out working on my Gorilla posts. The next chapter will be interesting to SNDK shareholders. I would appreciate any constructive criticism, or even deconstructive criticism, either in the form of a post or a private message.
