Larry - I ve always enjoyed Mr Rosenthal's [when I got the chance.] I think most of us can agree on what has happened. The differences are more how to approach it. It is true. The crackdown, the suppression and even the imported prostitution in Tibet [I had a calendar <98> that captured the scene, which I dubbed "Miss April!"] Opening a disco right next to Potala really says it all about the intent. Having said that, as I have pointed out, even my tibetan friends have varying opinions with regard to how to respond to imminent destruction of their heritage. With respect to the Tienanmen incident. One has to look also at the preceding events culminating to that fateful moment. Like it or not, while some of the students have matured into a true democratic proponents, many were not a thoughtful bunch. The fact that there was at one point a near clash between 2 PLA divisions in the south demonstrates the seriousness of the situation. Yes, the hardliners won that battle by using the division from the most rural and least educated area, who did not have any sympathy to the students at all, to crush the students. So, after all is said and done, there are still differing opinions. Of course, like it or not, we elect our govt so the officials will do the dirty works for us and free us to pursuit our own goals. Sometimes, they do the right things; sometimes, they do the wrong things; sometimes, they do the unpopular things. And we can exercise our democratic rights to voice our opinions - and throw the bums out next time around. Of course, "we" don't agree among ourselves either. So is the proof of democracy <G> best, Bosco
