Toshiba has already launched DVD -ROM production at its plant in the Philippines and also plans to boost the output of DVD -ROM drives at its plant in Aomori prefecture. The company did not disclose the plants' output. ------------ Hitachi to up FY global DVD -ROM drive output to 6.5 mln units from 3 mln 06/04/1999 AFX News (c) 1999 by AFP-Extel News Ltd TOKYO (AFX) - Hitachi Ltd said it will boost its global output of digital video disc read-only memory (DVD-ROM) drives to 6.5 mln units in the year to March 2000 from 3 mln the previous year. Hitachi will launch DVD-ROM drive production in July at its Malaysia unit Hitachi Electronic Products, aiming to manufacture about 1.2 mln units in the year to March 2000, it said. Domestically, the company said it plans to raise its DVD-ROM drive output to 5.3 mln units in the year to March 2000 from 3 mln the previous year, by shifting CD-ROM production lines at plants in Ibaraki and Gifu prefectures to DVD -ROM lines. hs/gs/cjh
