Jim, I suppose the concern is that Apple has based its updated chipset on the G4 processor. It appears to me that using IBM chips will mean no real progress on the motherboard. The PC world on the other hand will have a 133 Mhz front side bus, rambus 800 Mhz memory, 4X AGP available to it in Sep. That's why I indicated that the Mhz vs performance gap will begin to close in that timeframe. It's conceivable that the PPC will no longer have nearly as much advantage. Graphics may especially be impacted. Apple will need to rapidly ramp Mhz to keep parity. This may be why we are now hearing about a 600 Mhz PPC to be available this fall. That schedule is quite accelerated from what we've seen recently on the Mhz front. Even so, Apple/IBM will need to really push as the likely intro of Intel's Coppermine in Sep will be at 733 on the desktop while Geyersville for portables will intro at 600 (On AC power). By the way I agree IBM does know its business. Probably too late to backtrack on Altivec but I am very leery of MOTs ability to execute. Rich
