Netscape, Exodus and Scient Executives Invest in Promising Start-Up
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Responsys.com, a leading web
application service provider that enables permission marketing on the
Internet, today announced the appointment of Jim Lodestro to its management
team as vice president of sales. Lodestro was most recently vice president of
channel sales at Hyperion Solutions Corporation (Nasdaq: HYSL). Responsys.com
also announced today that several leading Internet executives have invested in
the company. These individual investors include Mike Homer, a senior vice
president at Netscape Communications Corporation, which was recently acquired
by America Online, Inc., (NYSE: AOL); B.V. Jagdeesh, co-founder and CTO of
Exodus Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXDS); Chris Lochhead, chief marketing
officer at Scient (Nasdaq: SCNT); and Skip Glass, partner at Weiss Peck and
Greer and former senior vice president for strategic partnerships at Netscape.
Jim Lodestro brings a wealth of sales experience to Responsys.com having
previously held the position as vice president of worldwide channel sales, at
Hyperion. Prior to that position he was responsible for western region and
channel sales at Arbor Software, where he was also the company's first sales
person. In August of 1998, Arbor Software and Hyperion Software Corporation
merged, forming what is today the world's leading provider of analytic
application software. Lodestro holds an MBA in Finance from Babson College in
Wellesley, Massachusetts and a BA in History from the University of Rochester.
Lodestro will be responsible for the overall development and management of
worldwide sales, distribution and services at Responsys.com, including
professional services and training.
"Responsys.com will benefit tremendously from Jim's vast experience and
proven success in building world-class companies with category leadership,"
said Anand Jagannathan, president and CEO of Responsys.com. "Jim helped build
such leadership at Arbor Software which defined and owned the on-line analytic
processing, or OLAP category. This makes him an ideal choice to lead
Responsys.com's sales and partnership efforts, to propel the company to its
next level of growth."
Mike Homer, B.V. Jagdeesh, Chris Lochhead and Skip Glass join Accel
Partners, Foundation Capital and Sabeer Bhatia, the founder of Hotmail, as
investors in the company. Responsys.com completed its initial private round
of financing with Accel Partners and Foundation Capital in December, 1998.
"We are both excited and honored to have these successful Internet
executives as investors in Responsys.com," said Jagannathan. "The decision to
invest in us by these Internet thought leaders is further testament to not
only our vision and execution, but also to the dire need for a cost-effective
solution for permission-marketing on the Internet."
Launched in March 1999, Responsys.com has become a category leader in the
emerging market of web application services designed to make it easy and
affordable for e-companies to establish and maintain a continuous personal
relationship with their customers and prospects. The company's first product,
Responsys Interact(TM) uses permission-marketing techniques to provide online-
retailers and corporations the ability to create, run and monitor highly
personalized web marketing campaigns.
