WRT the K7, if it does have best of breed performance, but they can't get significant quantities for a few quarters, is it a wash (re effect on INTC?)

Tony,

It is unclear to me how AMD will present the K7. If it is presented as a high priced, quality chip, then it probably will be a wash if they are unable to produce it in quantity.

If they present it as an "Intel killer" with a low price, Intel will be negatively impacted under any outcome. Of course, under this plan, AMD will once again win some battles but lose the war, as they have done in their failed low end attack.

Best Trading,
X

p.s. I believe AMD seriously overestimated the effect of the "Intel Inside" campaign, particularly on the desktop market. They should have been able to spread the attendant price cuts out over 4 to 6 years, instead of two. This would have contributed greatly to the wealth of both companies, not to mention the boxmakers.
