I've heard that argument too. And I can respect it without agreeing with its conclusions or even for the basis on which it is made. There are many things that are too costly on a given basis. Some that only incur costs, and produce nothing (or very little) of value relative to their costs. The key word in that statement is "Farmed."

It is a well constructed argument, but not sufficient for me. The solution is not to eat less meat but to produce it more efficiently. If we had to hunt down and kill our prey before we could eat it, we might have a better balance in the amount of meat we eat and in the cost-per-calorie.
