WCOM's bullish comments a few days ago helped too.

Recent improvement in semi BTB the last two reports, with announcements of increase capital spending contributing.

LTD made a new high with good strength in retail sector(SHOO, BEBE).

04-Jun-99 11:44:09 SG Cowen is talking up Applied Materials today - noting
that the firm's visibility is "about as good as it gets." Cowen rates AMAT as a
"Strong Buy." Shares of AMAT have bounced between the low $50s and
mid-$60s since early March as investors seek out clear signs regarding the
future of chip market. In today's trading, AMAT has jumped $3 to $60 1/4 on a
mix of institutional and retail buying. Approximately 30% of today's trading
volume has resulted from block trades. The stock's trading patterns and
pre-trade AutEx data suggest that institutional brokers are mainly executing on
behalf of the firm's house trading accounts, rather than institutional clients. The
same firms that we have seen entering super bids are also entering super sell
messages in an effort to capitalize on the stock's volatility.
