Possible... But my feeling is that 3dfx isn't going to have its next gen boards available until Thanksgiving anyway. With the Voodoo3 3500TV out in mid-July, I wouldn't expect 3dfx to be rushing on getting out the nextgen board unless they were confident that they could win most of the OEMs in the October cycle. Unlike today's battle of the accelerator cards, the Voodoo3 3500TV offers a compelling differentiating feature that OEMs will like to be able to list, especially since stand-alone TV's cost $300-$500. ATI has shown that the demand is there but (as usual) their 3D implementation runs a generation behind. Unless ATI dramatically improves its offering or Creative and Diamond surprise everyone by following 3dfx's lead in mid-cycle, 3dfx should be able to own this niche market. Semi-OT: Reality is Funnier than Fiction This was too funny to keep to myself. From the American Heritage Dictionary: in-vid-i-ous adj. 1. Tending to rouse ill will, animosity, or resentment; offensive. 2. Containing or implying a slight; discriminatory. 3. Obs. Envious. [Lat.invidiosus envious, hostile. < invidia, envy.] I wonder if the company founders named it after the “invidia/envy” part but the didn't know about all the possible connotations.
