Of course, earnings are not affected by a split. However, it appears to be harder to have a blow out quarter because all your earnings numbers are halved. For example, emc normally beats earnings by two cents, so maybe 4 cents would qualify as a blow out quarter. But now beating earnings by 2 cents would be the same as beating earnings by 4 cents presplit but it just doesn't have the same bang for the buck. I know it doesn't make sense mathematically but that's how people are. So to really blow out the numbers is harder after a split than before. It's a psychological point, not a mathematical point. Feel free to disregard it. Anyway, the first really great day for emc in a while. Let's see if we can build on it on Monday.
