"One thing that is worth keeping in mind about "rewriting in Java" vs. using a Citrix technology, is that very few applications scale really well (that is, to thousands of simultaneous users) unless they have been written specifically to do so."

Hardly,
I understand what you mean. It just gets so confusing when the Mission Statement from each company could be swapped out and no one would notice. Here's a post that spells that out:

I knew there was an apples and oranges in there somewhere, and your response makes it clear to me now what they are. Your comments did a great job of explaining the space both plan to be in.

Now one space both companies may compete in, is the ASP (Application Service Provider) market. I believe I have read where Oracle's "i" products will be positioned for that space, and Citrix is also making a major push there too. It should be interesting how this emerging market shakes out. But then again, it's still not quite an apples to apples competition.

Citrix is an ever evolving company. It started out so simple. But then their products seemed to solve problems I don't think CTXS even dreamed about. I believe the original goal for them was to be able to access enterprise apps via dial-up. Then TCO came into play. Then the Internet came along. Then the Y2K solution apparently was stumbled upon. And finally the ASP market is evolving. No wonder few investors really understand CTXS.
Thanks,
