As for <<Think for a minute: why did DSL stocks surge on the news?>>
I don't have any better idea than you do

Actually I have a very good idea. I guess I need to spell it out.

The technology is not there to handle "@Home, Chinese On Line, MindStop, or MarsLink" (gee who might those be?) all at once on the same wire. A lot of technical and administrative and most importantly political issues to resolve. How long would it take and how far would DSL have been developed by the time it is all resolved?

What do you get when the government controls how much profit you can get? Think U.S. Postal service. Even better-- think Cable TV.
Overloaded slow service and everyone pointing the finger to everyone else for the blame. Users switch to DSL. That simple.

I couldnt care less about Portland. ATHM will win no matter what. But I think the market will care, at least for a while. Ahhaha recently said I dont know trading from investing. Its very simple really: Trading is anytime you sell with the intent to buy back at a lower price. I'm trading.
