>>Comments about several things, CC:<< For the record, I just happen to agree with everything that you said. So you, my friend can comment on anything you like! LOL Except for the leverage part - I kind of like that word <ggg>. However, I feel an additional comment is appropriate here. You mentioned . . . >>A real mine field, here: people, once they're on notice about it, are very very antsy about having someone warehouse their lives.<< I agree with you, however I also feel that for the most part, a good number of people (especially younger people) have generally accepted this now as way of life. I also see the resistance dropping off among the general public - you know, its so pervasive so why fight it. That said, Amazon.Com is one of the best examples of a company who is maximizing their customer information data base. They are using their data base to provide new products and services to the people who are most interested in these services and products. They know what their customers want, and they could soon become a virtual one stop shop for a good portion of a customer's needs. What I find most interesting is that Amazon.Com found that just asking people for information "so that they could serve you better" was not very effective. To get people to really share the good stuff with you, they had to trust you and/or your company. But, once a company earned their trust, and they believed that this company could / would provide them with good service, then they were much more receptive to providing additional information on their likes and dislikes. So in summary, if they #1 trusted the company, and #2 felt that this additional information would assist the company in better meeting their needs, they would willingly open up and spill the beans. Now, in my opinion, a neighbourhood shopping mall generally already has the support and trust of the surrounding community. So, I could see the residents more than willing to provide information to improve the service and selection the mall (and its tenants) provides. I also believe that there is gold in them thar data mines! That is why I also have a significant portfolio position in a Data Mining company. As always WUWT, I appreciate your insights. Thanks for the feedback! Now onward and upward! Crazy Canuk
