, or, if forced to open up to ISP, then they will get a surcharge for providing the pipe
I hate to burst your bubble but ATHM does not own the pipe. The whole point of "equal" access is that no ISP has an advantage over any other. The $ goes to the owner of the wires (T Comcast etc.), not to ATHM.
However "equal" access would eventually bring benefits to ATHM in more indirect ways. It is possible I suppose that some ISP's might lease some of ATHMs infrastructure as well as leasing bandwidth from T. I dont think running a wire to every head end is a trivial task.
More importantly it could create an environment where cable is more widely used, more widely accepted bringing with it the positive feedback cycle of having more broadband applications and a greater total number of broadband users.

<<<T/ATHM will be in the same situation by being the pipe. ATHM in the 90's is an outright gift. though i wouldn't be surprised to see 75 or 80 if a panic continues on monday/tuesday. larry>>
