Any teacher (I was one once) knows that nice kids (defined as ones who are pleasant to talk with, aren't always arguing and negative, laugh at the teacher's jokes, etc.) can get away with things that surly kids can't.

And any lawyer knows that the lawyer who is respectful and pleasant and helpful to judges will, in a close decision, get the nod over the lawyer who is argumentative, man, and just plain unpleasant to deal with.

Same thing here. SI is run by humans, not computers. If you're nice to them, you can get away with stuff that would cause a surly, nasty, argumentative person to get dumped. (Just look at what we got away with on the Beltane thread!)

Negative attitudes beget negative responses.
