It seems to that doctors and researchers would rather blame the FDA than have to say "I'm sorry, I don't have the time to help you" to a dying person. This is entirely understandable. A difficult situation for everyone.

On the off chance that someone happens to read this message and needs information on the possibility of getting speedy individual access to experimental treatments, here is an article explaining the process and indicating the FDA will respond within 48 hours in the case of a true emergency where the experimental drug may be the only hope.

I think it would have to be a very persistent patient and/or family to succeed, and one with strong financial resources to be able to buy the necessary time from a qualified doctor to help with the paperwork.
