Glenn,

People can still go to shopping malls to socialize. They might not just buy something there.

It is cheaper o/l and you also have more choice thanks to the search engines if you know what you want. If you do not know what you exactly want you may go to the malls and browse w/ the help of the shopping attendants in the expensive shops maintained by the chains. Then you simply come home, fire off one of the many shopping engines and get the best quote on your choice.

Some stuff, like groceries, is not cheaper o/l. But it results in an enormous time saving. Same for a variety of other stuff which you would otherwise buy in a drugstore.

So, o/l saves you both time and money, hence is more efficient from a consumer perspective. Looking back, over the last year I probably did 80% of retail shopping o/l.

But then, I hate shopping.
