U.S. will increase tariffs on Korean DRAM Jun 04, 1999 - Antidumping tariffs imposed by the United States on Korean dynamic random access memory semiconductor chips will be increased under a preliminary decision by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The department has decided to impose a 13.11% tariff on Hyundai Electronics Industries?DRAM chips and a 10.67% rate on LG Semcon's DRAM. The Department will make a final decision on rates in the second half of this year. Korean chip makers had been subject to U.S. antidumping tariffs ranging from 3.95% to 9.04% since 1998 The United States imported US$1.92 billion worth of DRAM chips from Korea last year, up from US$1.79 billion in 1997. ++++++++++++++++++++++++= Dynamic Random Access Memory Semiconductors of One Megabit or Above (DRAMs) from the Republic of Korea On June 2, 1999, the Department of Commerce announced its preliminary determination in the antidumping duty administrative review of DRAMs from the Republic of Korea.
