It all became very basic: I wanted to get out alive and knew there would come a window of opportunity.

Thank you for understanding. It took many years to come to this road and a few emotional scars linger, but I've a nice life now. I'm glad I held on to the dream.

How very true! And there can be reasons (children immediately spring to mind, but there are others) that make it terribly difficult to "take a hike." I have one dear friend who has been going through all he stages of agony reconciling to a divorce from a woman he should never have married in the first place; she is a cold and contemptuous person and I doubt that she is capable of loving. Yet he, because of his own emotional history, has always felt a need to "make things right" and it's hell for him to acknowledge that in more than 15 years he could not make it right. It wasn't possible. He trapped himself with his own emotional history and now there are two adolescent daughters as well to consider.

Eventually, he will feel relief and realize that out of this marriage is the best place he could be. Eventually....

...oh...nevermind <g>...Actually I agree. My point was that even in the worst of times it's critical not to give up.

Ever notice that even the smallest light can push back a lot of darkness?
