It is important to factor in inflation when considering returns on investments.

How would holders of gold and silver done if they had started loaning out their metal to generate interest in metal as soon as the metal loan came into existence?

I would guess that someone loaning the metal may have done quite well when compared with other investment vehicles. And this is at a 20 year bottom.

It might be interesting to do the comparison when the situation with stocks/commodities is reversed.
