SPDR (symbol SPY) is based on SP500 index, but trades like a stock. It has some advantages over SP500 index fund. AMEX web site has a good discussion on SPY and other similar SPDR based stocks.

For tech sector there is a sector SPDR, symbol XLK.

The Nasdaq 100 index is heavy in tech stocks. QQQ is based on the Nasdaq 100. Jim Hopkins has a very active thread on QQQ, at
