"does 2000 face severe price competition for first time buyers when Microworkz Computer has packaged WordPerfect Suite 8 (WordPerfect Office 2000 is the latest version) on its Microworkz WEBzter family of personal computers, which sell for $699.95?"

No, I don't think so. Office 2000 isn't targeted at the average home user. What use will most home users have for PowerPoint? Or Access?

The target software for that market is probably something along the line of Microsoft Works Suite 99, which includes:

Word 97
Works 4.5
Encarta 99
Money 99 Basic
Graphics Studio Greeting 99
Expedia Streets 98

Estimated street price $109. As low as $80 on the street if you qualify for the upgrade (according to shopper.com), and bundled with many low-end PCs.

I expect we'll have an updated version soon, with Word 2000, the new version of Streets, etc.
