You don't see attics on the new houses. Basements are the working part of a house. Pipes, wires, pumps. What it takes to keep the rest of the place humming.

An attic roof with a foot of insulation, aluminum or white roof, and a powerful air-conditioning unit might be a treat. I've lived in the other kinds. You might well murder your landlady if you had to live in an old hot garret.
