Yes, I have an appendectomy scar that suns from my waist all the way down my belly--it was 1959; I was very young and skinny; the surgeon was excellent but old-fashioned and never thought about scars. I am blonde, so it never occurred to him that I might be prone to keloids, which I am.

For years I was embarrassed to wear a bathing suit that showed my belly and the scar, which is unpretty. Finally, I realized, because of this surgery I am alive today. I was that close to peritonitis that I could have died. I may wear an ugly scar on the outside today, but it gave me life whereas so many people wear scars that are invisible that rob them of life.
