The RDRAM buffer 85 provides a performance improvement by permitting faster access to display list instructions and
pixel data, compared to accessing data stored in the main memory 75 of the host computer system.


Sounds like an improvement, that's all I can add.

Richard,

The paragraph from Cirrus patent you referred to describes a soon to be common technique of putting an DRDRAM framebuffer on the graphics card.

A couple of things to note:

1. Lots of people will be doing this before long, which is very good news for Rambus.

2. The patent actually had nothing to do with DRDRAM. The discussion of DRDRAM was strictly a part of the description of the graphics subsystem, for reference.
