I think some people think there are people who did not sweat it out to get to the top- and there are- but it is money, not whiteness or maleness, that puts those people at the top. If you don't want to organize your society around money you're going to have a tough time- all societies I know of eventually wind up with an elite, even communist countries that aren't supposed to have one. And of course people who get power, and riches, don't want to give it up. I sure wouldn't.
