>>AT&T said the ruling won't affect it's current cable-TV operations in Portland. The ruling only applies for high-speed Internet access services, which AT&T doesn't currently offer in that area. Rosenblum declined to say when AT&T would offer those services.<<

I bet there will be no rush to provide high-speed cable access to Portland, The more I think about it the more I like the "walk away" idea. T should just stiff them. Put them last on the list to get high-speed internet service. So many others are waiting for it without all the conditional socialistic BS.

T is making the statement that if Portland forces open access on T, they will simply pull the plug on Cable internet in that county and not offer ANY high speed service!
If true- good for them! regardless of what Ahhaha may think.

ATHM and cable internet in general is too young for the distraction of mandatory equal access and the complexities it will bring. More than anything the benefit would go to DSL and wireless and satellite and ... Cable internet is in a fight for its life. The six months or year it would take to sort out all the confusion might well be enough to change the equation alltogether.

All this discussion about equal access has been fun. A nice distraction. I very much doubt anything lasting has changed from this. ATHM is still doing what it always has been. The market will forget this very quickly.

It's tit-for-tat and it is mighty stupid. Are they going to do that in SF, LA, NY, and everywhere else too?
