When I was playing turnaround? My basic point is that chemists have a bad rap all their own and most of us know better. It's something that to me anyway really does not need to be said out loud. Do I really believe that chemists are the rapists of the ecosphere? No. I'm a chemist and it is my vocation and pleasure to design drugs to treat some very nasty conditions. The guy in the refinery is doing his best to keep all them Burbans rolling, and now the big push is on to strip the refinery of its cloak of smog.
But if someone makes a crack around me about the dark side of the chemist's profession, and I provided some humdinger examples, I'm likely to shrug it off because I know better. And if perchance my interlocutor is a radical environmentalist who actually believes that the only good chemist is a dead chemist - tough. I hope he never needs a heart pill. In the meantime he gets to have an opinion. I'l disagree. And I might even think "asshole". But I'm not gonna tell him to go f*ck himself.
