OT Hi Michelle. Have you ordered anything from WebVan yet? I just completed my first order. I am quite satisfied. Some selection areas are thin, but overall a broad set of offerings for a first effort. Lots of fresh meats, fish, dairy, produce. I don't see how they can make money with that business model. My list will be labor-intensive to fill - a dozen items, one of this, one of that, various product categories. Don't see how they can make any money that way. That's what's the problem for Peapod and Netgrocer, as I understand it. On the other hand, Peapod charges a $15 delivery fee, while WebVan's is free for my $56 order. One WebVan negative: my 6/5 order can't be filled until 6/8. They allow you to select from a large range of 1/2 time windows, however.

Still like HomeGrocer's model better. I understand that they will focus on nonperishables. Less wasteage, less inventory, less labor, it would seem.

fwiw, I'll report on the product quality later.

Rob

For your average local restaurant, car lot or flower shop etc. how much
do you think they would be willing to spend, assuming they felt advertising on the net
was worthwhile.... one thousand per year?

Michelle,

I doubt they believe advertising on the net will be worth while. I am not making that assumption. It is not worthwhile to me at this point at least in my opinion.

My opinion is the amount spent on advertising will not increase.
