I haven't followed the company as closely as I do Novell so I can't give you a definite opinion as to what will happen. I can say this though, I don't see them getting any worse.

I'm not too sure if merger/acquisition is the only way for this company to grow. They will survive, they just need to make some alliances/partnerships with companies who can develop middleware for use with their data warehousing software.

MSFT has their own ideas what to do with their product. Oracle has partnerships with Novell and SUNW as well as their own OS wanna-be product. They even understand the "network appliance" idea and will be building those types of products too. IBM (with DB2) has integrated their product into the e-commerce offerings as well as their mini-computers. That much I know about Informix's competition..

Informix isn't standing still either...check their website you can find informationa about their upcoming e-commerce platform. Let's remember that many companies already use Informix for their transactional data so adding web-enabled functions into their core product(s) could be a boon.

I think Informix should do well...
