A socket will require an on-CHIP L2 cache.

Coppermine is a Pentium /// with an on-chip 256K L2 cache - built on a 0.18 micron process.

AMD is going to look PRETTY STUPID - introducing an EXPENSIVE Slot A K7, completely non-standard, at the same time Intel is transitioning BACK TO A SOCKETED version for the Coppermine.

But then again, AMD has a history of looking pretty stupid.
