On..."Capital Punishment." Nothing has shown to be effective for the level of crimes comming under this umbrella. Life long imprisonment is merely us admitting that we are at a loss to find any intervention that would be acceptable to actively engage these persons as members of society. Rehab had hope at first. It didn't pan out and has done far more harm than good toward society as a whole. I'm refering to repeat offenders here. Not to mention that many prisoners come out (having paid their price to society) much more hardened than when they went in, often times having perpetrated much more awful crimes in prison than they would have on the outside. Punishment...what a joke. It is pointless to argue whether or not it ever deters people thinking of some heinous murder. Many of these people are actually juiced by this idea. So what is there?

There are crimes that society is simply not prepared to deal with at any level. Punish them, don't punish them that is the big question and the problem for me is the term itself. Capital punisment. "Death Penalty" is what it is. It doesn't punish, rehabilitate, or deter anything. It does remove the problem. The big problem we have with it is making the decision to put someone to death. We don't want the responsibility for deciding who gets it and who doesn't. Serious problem.
