You are certainly right about the cruelty of words, and sarcasm may be wasted on little children. When my philosophic son lectures his 6 year old daughter she grabs her head with both hands and yells "Brain Full! Brain Full!". Of course, she's sarcastic because she earns more as a model than he earns as a computer engineer. He is working on a book. I think his ideas (like all philosophy) are bunk. But we discuss them anyway. He's working on his invention of the "monkey-dog" -- the friendliness and loyalty of the dog and the mind and agility of the monkey. Will sit at your feet drinking in your monologues with a smile on his face, and run and fetch you a beer when asked. I think most intelligent people will opt for monkey-dogs instead of children.
By the way, the US Employment Service Dictionary of Occupational Titles doesn't list "Philosopher." For "Poet" it says "See versifier." Quite a prosaic book. Thanks for the compliment on the writing gene.
The only publication so far of my get is a masterful essay on high-wall climbing in a mountaineering magazine and a couple volumes of a small circulation motorcycle racing mag.
