Interesting post. I did not realize that. Would you please post the link?

It doesn't take a genius, of course, to puzzle out that the elite and the unwashed masses have different agendas.

I am intrigued by the concept of forcing rich people to build triremes for defense. These days, we force the middle class to pay for our triremes, and everything else, as well. Although I understand that social scientists will argue that the rich still pay most of the taxes, the definition of "rich" has been scaled down quite a bit. Another example of lying with statistics.

"As the Republicans never fail to point out, the U.S. is a republic, not a democracy (like the UK)."

I think it is more accurate to say the UK is a democratic monarchy while the US is a democratic republic.

"republic" is from 2 Latin words: re + publica, literally it means "the public thing."

The concept of democracy (everyone gets to vote) comes from the Greeks. The concept of a republic (representative government in which the head of state is elected) comes from the Romans. Folks its all their fault!

I don't believe you know very much at all about what I know.
