Hello Pruguy,

> spoken like a true NDS directory fan.'

I will indicate that although I work for Novell, my use of the term here is slightly different. I *do* think that there are many places that a directory service, like Novell's NDS, could be integrated into the streaming media markets. I am not trying to suggest this in these posts. I'm using the term directory in a much different context ... more like the first "search engines" or "Internet directories" ... ala Yahoo!

All of this explosion of content is extremely valuable, but only if users can find it. I believe that it is the people who figure out how to bring together consumers with producers that end up have the most valuable part of any transaction ... because they can utilize this position to make a little on each transaction.

I also believe that the model of "web crawlers" and "robots" that scour the Internet is going to change. I believe that a new model will start to grow where automatic "check-in" from sources of information will build the "directories" or "indexes" that people go to to locate information or sources of content. SHOUTcast uses this model.

I'm not in a position to publically comment on Novell's business ... I think it's a no-no. ;-)

Sorry ... I wish that I could help ... but it's not my place ... ;-(

I absolutely agree ... and couldn't agree more! There are huge areas that these two companies could work together in this space ... and some of these relate to NDS (secure authentication and authorization), NetWare (scalable storage), and BorderManager (proxy/cache and object routing) ...

> Do you know of any woirk in this area?

Sorry ... no comment. I'm afraid of getting myself into trouble ...
