A few reasons why wireless phone makers should like a built-in biometric element:

(1) Prevents phone theft (same reason applies to laptop computers)
(2) Prevents phone use fraud
(3) Appropriately screens access to data bases (for those phones that can connect to the Internet)

I doubt we have a 'help desk' reason for sales, but the others listed above probably make a stronger business case for a cell phone biometric scanner than a desktop biometric scanner. And the Motorola-generation scanner will be cheaper and more convenient than the present first-generation IDT/Compaq product that is already selling respectable numbers. (I assume Compaq will upgrade ASAP.)
