MagicTV Showcases Live Interactive TV Services Over Copper Telephone Lines

New Software Helps Telcos Compete with Cable Companies and
Offer New Services to Subscribers

ATLANTA, GA, June 7 /CNW/ - SUPERCOMM'99 (No. 1555) - June 7-10, 1999 -
iMagicTV will showcase live, interactive TV services, including unlimited
channels, video-on-demand, Internet access and e-mail services, over copper
telephone lines throughout several Supercomm booths here this week. Using its
DTV Manager software, iMagicTV will highlight the compelling business case
these applications present for telcos to implement residential broadband
deployment, diversify their business and provide subscribers with features
that transform their televisions for the digital age.
''The time is now for telcos to provide the full service bundle and
create new streams of revenue by giving subscribers exciting, new interactive
TV services that enable subscribers to use their TVs in ways they never
thought possible,'' said Marcel LeBrun, president and CEO of iMagicTV. ''With
technology available today, these new applications provide telcos with a way
to retain their vast customer base and deliver features consumers want now
using the copper infrastructure telcos already have in place.''
Demonstrating the standards-based, open architecture and feature-richness
of its product, DTV Manager, iMagicTV will network its booth with Sun
Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW) (No. 1727) and Newbridge Networks (No. 7715) using
traditional copper wiring. PixStream will also participate in the
demonstration as part of the iMagicTV exhibit. Integrating PixStream's
high-quality, video networking systems with iMagicTV's DTV Manager suite, the
companies will show how this solution empowers telcos to compete with cable
and satellite companies by turning copper telephone wires into high-speed,
digital TV networks.
''Over the past couple of months, PixStream and iMagicTV have delivered
on contracts with a number of telcos to deploy interactive television services
over copper telephone lines using ADSL technology,'' said Dave Caputo, Vice
President of Marketing, PixStream. ''Working with iMagicTV allows us to offer
a complete ''carrier-class'' TV content redistribution solution with a very
compelling business case.''
''There are more than 750 million copper telephone lines throughout the
world today, and DTV Manager can help telcos turn any ADSL or VDSL technology
into a managed interactive digital TV service that brings them new forms of
revenue and feature sets to subscribers,'' said LeBrun. ''DTV Manager combines
the features that subscribers want with the management capabilities and
standards-based architecture telcos demand, working with the telco's chosen
network vendors.''
iMagicTV will highlight the unique subscriber features DTV Manager offers
such as its easy-to-use Interactive Program Guide, video-on-demand, and
e-mail, and the telco management features that are built into the product. DTV
Manager offers service providers administration and operations components
designed to work with existing telco environments and processes. These
capabilities allow service providers to leverage these existing systems for
additional revenue. DTV Manager also integrates a number of features that will
enable service providers to manage customer accounts, create unique channel
packages, and administer video content.

Tried to post this yesterday but couldn't post. Just taking the time to do it now.

Saw the new CEO on TV today, Sunday.(Husband was channel flicking so not sure of channel, either CNN or Newsweek) Caught the tail end. They are
focusing on growth technology now while maintaining their current level of Telecommunications(believe it is 80% of market share in the maritimes). I'm doing
this by memory so do your own DD. 3 yrs was the time frame and I think I heard the figure 85% of new business will be national. I am hoping
AIT will be accepted well. BRR didn't have an analyst following until just before the split. I'm hoping AIT has better coverage.

Aliant President and CEO Stephen Wetmore addressed the strengths of the
new technology company. ''Aliant is a group of advanced technology companies,
focused on growth, strategic expansion, and shareholder value. Our new company
has a solid financial foundation, the size, scope and growth strategies to
become a significant player in North America's telecommunications and
information technology industries,'' Mr. Wetmore said. ''It will deliver
superior services to our customers; it will provide satisfying careers for our
employees; it will offer rewards for shareholders; and it will be a positive
force for growth.''
Aliant will be the third-largest incumbent telecommunications company in
Canada, the second-largest Canadian-owned IT group, and one of the largest
mobile satellite services companies in North America.
''Our telecommunications group has the strength of four strong regional
brands, market leadership, and key partnerships with Bell Canada and its
subsidiaries. Our information technology companies, with offices throughout
North America, including Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Alberta and Texas, will
contribute significantly to our growth and support the growth of our other
lines of business,'' said Mr. Wetmore. ''In mobile satellite services, Stratos
Global Corporation (TSE: SGB) is winning major contracts with clients like the
U.S. Navy, and with the operators of the gas pipeline from Nova Scotia to
Boston. Aliant's emerging business portfolio will deliver advances in
'telecom-centric' products and services, such as computer telephony
integration, TV over copper, and high speed e-commerce solutions, among
