Re: The comparable image for Rambus to your question would be if Rambus wanted Joe Smith in Lincoln, Nebraska to buy standalone Rambus RIMMs and chips. They don't. They want the product designers to specify Rambus, not the consumers.

Doesn't the same argument apply to Intel microprocessors? After all, they're just chips. End customers do choose to buy "Intel Inside" computers over, say, AMD. Clearly, end consumer preference drive sales, and sales definitely can drive designs, thereby creating "pull through", even though Rambus' direct customers are not the end computer purchasers.
