Ken,

Using simple TA is much harder these days than in the past. The MMs and specialists have their own gurus and know exactly where the TA traders will hit their buy and sell points. One of the classics I see now in the NYSE is the takeout of the first hour range (an old futures TA entry point), immediately followed by price popping back into the range.

My solution is pretty obvious if you've seen my site. I search for and create original TA trades constantly to find quirks that the crowd (or the insiders) haven't noticed yet. Then I'll quietly play those until the market changes. For example, I didn't touch NASDAQ from September of last year to about April of this year and daytraded DJ-30 stocks almost exclusively. Now that momentum types got burned some in this last correction and are looking at longer holds, I'm starting back into NASDAQ to see what the new opportunities are.
