Incumbents (ILECs) won't deploy five year old DSL technology either. And for the exact same reasons AT&T might NOW pull out of Portland. As I said, consumers generally don't understand the legal battles and apparently a city commissioner, in his mis-guided glee, doesn't either.

This is a big bucks game and so far, Armstrong is the only big player to step up to the plate with the resources to change the landscape.


It is a pleasure to see that there are those that are seeing the bigger picture here. I have said many times that AT&T will wind up making more money off the internet than any other company by the year 2003. This Oregon ruling is just a bump in the road for them, in my opinion.
