The "millennium" bug is here (some systems have started failing already) and even the Canadian government must now take immediate action as evidenced by the latest report of the Auditor-General. oag-bvg.gc.ca Here are some of the companies who whose expertise, products and services will be key in helping Canadian organizations become ready for Year2000. CGI Group (GIB.A - Montreal) ---------------------------- This is a long-established consulting company which has more recently moved into providing outsourcing services as well as concentrating its efforts in the financial services area. This company offers a variety of services re Y2K including consulting, conversion, outsourcing, testing plus any combinations of these. For instance, an organization may want CGI to handle their conversion, and then simply have CGI manage their entire IT shop from then on. Alternatively, many companies with insufficient computing capacity to run the multiple operating environments required for testing Y2000 remediation may call upon CGI to provide this excess capacity (CGI can also call upon its strategic partnerships with Comdisco and Sungard in this area). CGI has offices across Canada and will now be moving into the American market via its recently acquired Teleglobe Insurance Systems group. Home page: cgi.ca LGS Group (LGS.A - Montreal) ---------------------------- This too is a long-established consulting company, and like CGI, has enjoyed an important partnership with federal and provincial governments, crown corporations and industry over the past few decades. LGS is using the Peritus tool in its Y2K practise and also has offices in France, which may give it a lead in the Euro conversion business. Home page: lgs.ca Agiss (AGCR - OTC BB) --------------------- This a new company with an important automated conversion tool partner in ConSyGen of Phoenix, AZ. A joint Agiss-ConSyGen Y2K conversion centre has been established in Ottawa to provide conversion and testing services. home page: agiss.com Cognicase (COG - Toronto, COGIF - OTC BB) ----------------------------------------- A very timely October IPO for this Montreal-based company which provides an automated conversion tool (COGNI-2000) being used currently by some 70 customers. It also provides a variety of migration tools from mainframe to UNIX, client-server, AS/400 etc. home page: cognicase.ca Group West Systems (GPW - Vancouver) ------------------------------------ Another long-established company but which which went public only in July 1997. Group West has a strategic partnership with INTO 2000, a company with a conversion tool which specializes in the AS/400 platform. In addition to using the tool in its own practise, GPW may sub-license the product to others across Canada and in the north-central and western US. They are also in the process of establishing a conversion centre in Vancouver where clients will be able to test their remediated code before putting it back...

SI - 2000 millennium problem: investment opportunities
