Happy new year J!

No, I haven't started anywhere else, mostly because of inertia and the time requirements for the upfront setup.
I am prioritizing my AI research. As of now, I have 10 patents that are almost ready to file. They are all in the area of making AI more efficient and do better inference than the current models. The hope is to make AI more reliable and be able to reduce model sizes by an order of magnitude, which will in turn reduce power and compute requirements.

But I am leaning towards Substack for when I will make the transition.

Honestly, as it relates to my community/blog work, it has been the best decision yet. I should have moved on from SI years ago. It also helped that I early retired back in 2019 so I have a lot more time on my hands.

Before moving to Reddit, I considered just starting my own blog backed with a forum or maybe a discord channel. Then I looked at other places like Stocktwits and Bogleheads, etc. Just looking for any stock communities where I could get back to building my 'brand' and do what I do like here at the Inner Circle. After a few research sessions, asking questions and some soul searching, I settled upon Reddit because of the growing community, the momentum they have across all age groups/demos, etc.

The issue that was keeping me from Reddit was the "wild west" element in the community. Some subs tend to devolve into immature cesspools and I didn't want that. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to retain a level of control or keep the the forum operating like I wanted. In the end, it hasn't been an issue. We haven't had any trolls, any issues with respect/courtesy in the posts or from posters and the subReddit, last I saw, was in the top 20 on Reddit.

I'm not spending any time on promoting it really within Reddit. I have started TikTok channel and while I don't post the link to my SubReddit directly, people can reach out via DM if they have interest.

Honestly, I wish I would have moved my SI community from SI to Reddit 5 years ago, but I've been pleased with what we've accomplished there since end of Aug, 2024. Highly recommend it.

Thanks. Almost all of what i see and know anecdotally seems positive for Bitcoin and Galaxy Digital. Yesterday I read that Blackrock is suggesting a portfolio position of 1 to 2% in Bitcoin. CNBC reported a study that indicated that only about 16% of investors own any Bitcoin. No one in my circle of friends and acquaintances own any that they are admitting to. When I mentioned it to my contact at Schwab his response was that some of his clients are 100% in money market funds.

My philosophical concern with AI is I wonder just how much is going to be Garbage in Garbage out, with bad actors intentionally posting bad data all over the internet for nefarious means hoping to get it picked up by the AI powers and disseminated as factual.

I think you point out some good points, especially when using any AI program. It's only as good as it's data. That's why I think RDDT is an interesting play. There is so much information available (much of it is from 'experts' who post on specific subjects) that if/when they can figure out a way to monetize that, it could be a treasure chest.

The plan is to charge outside AI bots a small fee to scrape & index this data to create a huge database that a super smart AI program can access. Like you said, information is only as good as the source so this AI data collection will then need to cross reference some/many of the key points w/ other articles and/or papers (University papers/research). Now think if data includes all the videos, pod casts and music events. You are going to have one very smart AI bot.

FWIW in the early 80's I worked at the Stanford Research Center on a project funded by NASA called DIALOG which was Google before Google. We were an electronic library that indexed the worlds information mainly from libraries, medical journals & law cases and allowed users to search these data bases.

At the time I left in the late 80's, Larry Page and Sergey Brin were attending Stanford University (just up the street from our offices). They worked on their data index or search engine until 1996 with their project "Backrub". This is when they developed the foundational algorithm known as PageRank and launched their search engine, initially called Backrub.

Fast forward 40 years and we have this search capability on steroids with the development of AI. Like DIALOG of the 70's and 80's it was all about the databases and the indexing of that data.

It's going to be fun to see how this develops and if/when they can harness the power of quantum computers I see some incredible discoveries especially in the medical field.... stay tuned

One thing about using Wikipedia as a reference for anything, it's only as good as the people who write it and th sources it uses, none of which requite a college degree or any known expertise other than creating an account there, so it gets vandalized.

If it's a popular page or has may contributors, that can be fixed quickly. If not, then mistakes or outright lies can exist for years.

OK, major spoilers ahead if you've not seen the popular HBO show Game of Thrones:

Here's the scene, The character was a protective gentle giant who became nonverbal after an epileptic attack and could only say "Hodor" over and over, which became his name in the show and he was considered to be simple minded and was cruelly mocked for it.

Turns out he said that because it was his life's greatest purpose, literally, to "hold the door" against and overwhelming invading force of zombies controlled by the Night King so the rest of the party could escape. The goal of the Night King was to enslave the world and render it into a ice planet, devoid of any kindness or warmth. Basically to turn it into Hell.

Strong parallels made to The Lord of the Rings series, of course, and Sauron's goal of doing similar things.

Hodor did not survive the encounter but the "good guys" got away like they were supposed to and it was an emotional scene to those who watched the show and liked the character.

In the meme stock craze on Reddit, enough retail investors banded together to destroy some very wealthy funds and billionaires who'd shorted Gamestop, expecting it to go bankrupt. Many of these guys funded their Gamestop purchases with the bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies they mined themselves in the early days, when it was very easy and fast to do.

Many others considered it a joke and thought it was a waste of computing time (CPU cycles) and electricity, an would make fun of the "buttcoin' miners and mercilessly mock them. An imaginary coin for the imaginary world of video games where may of those guys spent their time using in-game digital currencies and were very familiar of their real world value since those game currencies could be bought and sold for real money, even though it was against game policies to do so. You could be suspended or banned from the game permanently for buying or selling game currencies for real money.

Guess who had the last laugh there? :-)

Banning and shadow banning are pretty awful and will always depend on the moderators' moods, beliefs, management directives, etc.

Good ones like you are always very slow to anger or will caution users before being offered the door. After lurking and watching you here, it's the reason I contacted you privately to begin with. Your sage advice in dealing with online trolls was one for the ages. I saved it permanently as a PDF file.

As we know from the political threads here at SI (if you read them) or almost anywhere, really, mods can get corrupted by their own perceived importance and power. That runs the gamut from some quaint 56k dialup BBS still in existence with less than 50 current users to people wealthy enough to own popular worldwide 'instant delivery' news and media platforms.

I'm reminded of my favorite quote in that regard, often attributed to Henry Kissinger, but he wasn't the first to say it:

Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) grew 27% year-over-year to $4.02 billion as of October 31, 2024, of which $153.0 million was net new ARR added in the quarter.

Subscription Gross Margin: GAAP subscription gross margin was 78% for the third quarter of both fiscal 2025 and 2024. Non-GAAP subscription gross margin was 80% for the third quarter of both fiscal 2025 and 2024.

Income/Loss from Operations: GAAP loss from operations was $55.7 million, compared to income of $3.2 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2024. Non-GAAP income from operations was $194.9 million, compared to $175.7 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2024.

At the same time, not getting a lot of first time or subject-matter posters so hopefully that will come. Just don't want it to be my own echo chamber but I think part of that is due to Reddit being so difficult to contribute to. If you look the wrong way, you'll get thread banned without even a warning it seems.

But I'm trying to foster a forum that is a safe place. Hopefully it pays dividends eventually and draws people out to post. I still post a daily Market Digest with my thoughts in the AM if interested.

I believe there already is one, I just don't know who knows about it and who does not. Who do you think the inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, really is?

Like I told you.....I sold out of MSTX @$102 on Monday only to watch it run to $220 this morning. Now it's back at $110...

Wow - looks like I was a little premature on MSTX also, but you know what.....I've learned to never regret taking nice early profits. Since I started doing that, my losses have diminished exponentially.

That and the mighty power of the stop-loss :-)

Been doing great with MSTX also on the crypto front. I sold out with very nice gains on that one too yesterday. We're looking toppy here and I also think we'll get a regression before the next rip. Yep, I agree with you on your bitcoin thesis and the orange one.

I never had any desire to own the coin itself, for the very reasons you mentioned. MSTX is my primary crypto proxy vehicle moving forward.

FWIW looked at creating a Bitcoin wallet 4 years ago but was complicated and always the chance you could lose your key and or your Bitcoin when you off loaded it into you wallet for storage. Was ready to buy 1 Bitcoin for $24K to store w/ my gold coins but finally decided it was too complicated.
