That particular show, Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space', is considered one of the best in the entire series by many. From the Wikipedia entry:

"The episode is a stand alone episode, like most episodes of The X-Files, and follows the normal Monster-of-the-Week pattern of the show but features more humor than typical via manipulation of point of view, leading to multiple re-tellings of certain events with varying degrees of unreliable narrators."

It was beautifully done.

Wargasm looks pretty good, I wonder how well it would play in emulation on a Mac, if it could be installed.

I've not made the time to try out most older PC games I have that don't have direct ports to Mac, or that require booting into Windows via Boot Camp. Had enough trouble trying to run The Ultimate Wizardry Archives in Windows XP and get all of the games to work.

I have a USA IP address I use with a VPN, through HappyVPN. Netflix works in the USA for me as well, US Netflix has way more content that Canada Netflix.

I was never really a X-Files fan, I did watch it sometimes. I really liked Highlander and La Femme Nikita that ran on TV back in the 90's.

Back in the 90's I was really into Flight Combat Sims. Thats all I played until I got Ghost Recon in 2001 one of the best games I played (multiplayer)

I guess I prefer the old school games more. My skills in first person shooters, like Battlefield 4, topped out with Quake back in the day. I'm simply not good enough to handle the 12+ buttons/keys used in modern games, all of which have different functions. Give me a good old time platformer or RPG and I'm in heaven.

You aren't kidding about video taking up a lot of hard drive space and time. I recently made a one minute video in Apple's iMovie, and it took over four hours to create, including the DVD mastering. Fun, but what a time drain!

Have fun with your video adventures. I love doing that stuff too and I'm learning what I can about it.

I only play one game now, Battlefield 4. I uninstalled all the others as I needed the HDD space regained 80GB of space. Been busy learning a special effects program for video special effects. That takes a lots of time and the video takes a lot of hard drive space.

Wow, no response to that? I realize this thread only has 10 SubjectMarks, but I figured there had to be at least one retro/classic PC and/or Mac gamer reading it.

To reiterate, the GOG.com sale is massive, has substantial discounts, and is all DRM free. I wouldn't normally make a big deal out of this, but the sale is time-limited too.

Just a heads up for any retro PC or Mac gamers out there, GOG.com is having a massive summer sale right now on their huge library of games (GOG stands for "Good Ol' Games," and many of theme certainly are).

A lot of Mac-compatible games are featured there too. But even if they aren't compatible, since they're old, they often run very well under Windows emulation via Parallels or VMWare Fusion, or natively with Apple's Boot Camp.

It seems to me like it had to be an enormous amount of work, because to do it well one would have to be constantly referring to a reference source as a guide. Building in the game is mostly a piece of cake, especially once one is familiar with it. I've built many small scale projects, but most of them have been freeform design builds that took shape in whatever direction my little imagination wanted to go.

This had to be team building and with some pretty sophisticated gamers doing it. Adults, not kids, and likely engineers or at the very least an engineer team leader.

It is an amazing piece of work!

Someone did a fantastic job of recreating the 1 Infinite Loop corporate headquarters. I roamed the buildings getting lost several times. Found the underground trams. Two restaurants just outside the main entrance were recreated as well.

Navy Lt. Scott Metcalf was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Xbox One. Now he’s not even sure if he’ll buy one.

Indeed, for many in the military, the next-gen Xbox console may offer more endemic frustration than grand epic gaming, particularly for those deployed downrange, aboard ships and stationed overseas.

Xbox One, Microsoft’s much-anticipated new console, got its big reveal at the Electronic Entertainment Expo gamers’ convention in Los Angeles. Company honchos are confident it will come to dominate living rooms over the next decade not only as the gaming delivery vehicle of choice, but also with a barrage of other content, including a suite of apps, streaming video and music.

There’s one big but, however: To get all this entertainment awesomeness, the console will have to check in online with the Microsoft mothership at least once a day.

“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection,” an Xbox spokesperson tell Military Times.

ShowstoppersMetcalf called that a “showstopper” for any service members who rely on their Xbox for off-duty diversions downrage, in the field, or at sea.

Which is to say, just about everyone.

And it gets worse for on-the-go troops. The Xbox One:

Can play only in Xbox One-friendly countries. Even if you’re lucky enough to have a regular, reliable Internet connection while overseas, you’ll have to be in one of 21 countries included in Microsoft’s server network. So, if you’re stationed in, say, Germany, Italy or Great Briatin, you’re good to go. But if you’re based in Japan, Kuwait or Afghanistan, you’re out of luck.

Will have region-locked games. Games bought in the U.S. can be activated only in the U.S. That means no more ripping open the latest title that just arrived in a care package from home while you’re deployed. And forget about buying games locally when overseas — if your Xbox Live account isn’t tied to the region when you activate a game, it won’t play.

Serious security concerns. Even when the Xbox One is in sleep mode, its built-in microphone can always listen in. It’s a feature developers say will provide quick voice-command access to games and apps — but that could spook commanders who might worry the always-connected device could also capture more than just idle chit-chat among troops.

“Microsoft has single handedly alienated the entire military. And not just the U.S. military — the militaries of the entire world,” says naval aviator Jay Johnson.

The Internet connection requirement is “the single greatest sin Microsoft has committed against all service members,” he writes in a post on the game developers’ site Gamasutra.

With tours aboard three Nimitz aircraft carriers, Johnson says he’s spent more than half of the past three years deployed or training at sea. He describes gaming in general and his Xbox in particular as “my sanctuary. It is where I went to calm down after a long day of flying.”

But that won’t true with the Xbox One, he says.

“No longer will the sounds of Master Chief saving the human race echo through the hallowed halls of the USS Abraham Lincoln, or any other USS ship, when we have a few hours respite. No longer will you see Marcus and Dom sawing through the Locust Horde at the bases in Afghanistan after the Marines have returned from patrol and want to escape their reality for a bit. Those days are now firmly behind us.”

Microsoft: Sucks to be youNot to fear, says Xbox exec Don Mattrick, president of the Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment division. The company has a solution for those in the military: Just use the old Xbox 360 instead.

“Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity, it’s called Xbox 360. If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device,” Mattrick told Game Trailer at E3 in an interview posted online.

He says he feels your pain, though.

“When I read the blogs and thought about who’s really the most impacted, there was a person who said, “Hey, I’m on a nuclear sub.’ I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub, but I’ve got to imagine that it’s not easy to get an Internet connection. Hey, I can empathize. If I was on a sub, I’d be disappointed.”

OFFduty asked Microsoft officials if that empathy might translate into practical workarounds for the military.

“I don’t have additional details to share and can’t speculate on workarounds at this time,” wrote Xbox rep Danica Stickel in an emailed response to questions, repeating the suggestion that troops could just use the 360 instead.

“Although we’re very excited about Xbox One, we remain dedicated to Xbox 360 now and for years to come. In fact, we are expecting some of the greatest blockbusters of 2013 and 2014 to come out on Xbox 360.”

She did offer some encouragement for Xbox One hopefuls, however, saying the regional lock restrictions aren’t much different from other content protections.

“Similar to the movie and music industry, games and other content must meet country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale — which means that games will work in the broad geographic regions for which they have been cleared, much as today with Xbox 360,” Stickel wrote.

“While the console itself is not geographically restricted, a user’s Xbox Live account, content, apps and experiences are all tied to the country of billing and residence,” she wrote.

“Military personnel will be able to take their Xbox One and play their games with them without an issue as long as the game has been ‘activated’ once in the U.S. Your games go with you and play, no issues,” she says.

Stickel also downplayed security concerns over the console’s always-on microphone or built-in Kinect video camera.

“When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded,” she says. “You will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options.”

But even those outside the military have been surprised by Micosoft’s shrug to the military community, with some speculating it will fuel a wider surge toward Sony’s Playstation console.

“This is shameful, says Joel Hruska, a writer for Extreme Tech website. “Telling troops that you ‘empathize’ with them is both embarrassing and hands Sony perfect ammunition.”

“Do I think Microsoft is going to change?” writes Hruska in a recent post. “Honestly, no. The remarks that’ve come out to date paint a picture of a company that’s so drunk on its own Kool-Aid, they aren’t listening to outside criticism or commentary any longer.”

I'm not that good on first person shooter games, but I did play a lot of the original Halo, on Mac. A LOT!

These days I putter around with Skyrim, since I've long since mastered the game. It can be peaceful and rather easy, lulling one into a false sense of security and then become violent and deadly very quickly. It's a 1st person or 3rd person adventure game where one can roam the world freely and take on quests as desired. I fell in love with the freeform nature of the game environment. It has a complex longer term story line that one can follow, or not, plus many short term quests. The game world is huge and very intricate. It's available on the XBox and the PC. I use it on the XBox, so I can't post any screenshots or clips from my gameplay. Too bad, too. The environment is quite striking at times. Here's a clip the creators posted on YouTube.

Also play Cities in Motion and Tropico from time to time, and I'm gradually learning how to play Company of Heroes, all on the Mac.

I don't actually play many video games, but I have quite a few (it is a mystery). Well, not entirely a mystery I guess. I have trouble with FPS games that use a controller to aim, and using one with 12 buttons is a bit much for me.

I do like to play Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3, that is a great game to play with friends over.

I have Mass Effect as well, but haven't given it a try yet.

Years ago when Battlefield Vietnam came out, I was really good at that game, then Battlefield came out, the first one in the new series, played that a lot and got really good. Now that I took a 5 year break from Battlefield, its really hard to get back in the swing of things. Game play is extremely fast, as you can see from the video, some maps the fighting is chaos.

I am good in Modern Warfare 3, but going to be a while to get good in Battlefield 3.

I stopped using Steam when I moved to the Island since it's broken and their support is next to useless and my Internet connection is so slow downloading the Apps again takes Hours.

Switched to xBox and will try CDBOII soon.

How do you like Black Ops 2? I received a one time credit from Steam, for my return of Black Ops 2, downloaded from their website. I like Steam, because it keeps all your game settings on their website. So if you get a new computer, you can download the games you bought from them, and all your levels, and settings are never lost.

I dumped Steam because their support is useless and can't play any game I bought from them on my Mac.

I figure if I spend more time trouble shooting a game than playing it then see ya.

As to what's in the CD Black Ops package I'll let you know when it gets here.

I loved the Mass Effects series and am playing Mass Effects 1 through for the third time capturing achievements. Most Likely now that I get the game strategy I'll start 1 from the beginning with a new career and play through until I get back to level 60 then import that into 2 play that through and then move to 3.

Only thing I'm having trouble with speed wise now is my Internet connect since I moved.

You should be happy you live on the Mainland where you have fiber and multiple ISP choices. Game at 1 to 3 mb is painful.

I bought Black Ops 2, two days ago for the PC (downloaded version). Its horrible. Multiplayer maps take 3-5 minutes to load, you get booted off the servers, if you want to play just the game, you have the same waiting problems, plus you can NOT get rid of the intro videos or other videos before a mission....its wait wait wait. Even trying to exit the program takes a LONG time.

I bought mine through Steam and have sent an email asking for a refund. I think Black Ops 2 is going to be a big disappointment. I had high hopes, but I do NOT like the game.

I know they have bugs to work out, but this waiting and waiting to play is unacceptable.

Ones I am playing now, in multiplayer is MW3, Ghost Recon, and Battlefield 3. Using a Toshiba Qosmio X870 gaming laptop.

"Surprise" - Official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Live-Action Trailer

Activision has prepared a new live-action video for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 called "Surprise." The surprise is a cameo from Iron-Man star Robert Downey Jr.

The word "surprise" also broadly describes the theme of the trailer. A combatant ambushes an enemy and then gets ambushed by someone else. This pattern repeats over and over for the full minute of the trailer.

Throughout the video, we see the various ways that you can wipe out enemies in this near-future shooter. Players will have access to both aerial and land drones with deadly ordinance. Old favorites like airstrikes and remote-controlled missiles will also make an appearance.

When you are mortally wounded you have about 15 - 20 seconds before you die and have to find a target of opportunity, by crawling or waiting for the person who shot you take your Dog Tags, (In Kill Confirmed - you collect tags from your dead enemies for points)

Here I was lucky to find a target and take him with me, adding to my kill count and points. Happens a lot of times, but not too often by crawling to find a target, usually works good when they try to take your tags off your body.

Yep MW3 map. That was a bit of camping and bouncing betties. When you are in a strategic position and hard to shoot, the enemy will come up behind you, so have a bouncing betty in place so you back is covered. But most of those kills were good reflexes. I do NOT do that good every night.

Yep deaths are how many times you die. If you can get 24-25 kills without dying you get a special perk, its called a MOAB. (Massive Ordnance Air Blast), it kills everyone on the opposing team, really cool when it goes off, this one, see (fast forward to 2 minutes 30 seconds to see the drop of one):
