Let's discuss global warming and how it may influence investment behavior and the stock market by means of so-called green investment practices. This is not intended as a thread to debate the scientific merits of the hypotheses that anthropogenic causes are significant contributors to the phenomenon of global warming or that buildup of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere leads to warming of the earth with potentially catastrophic consequences. Such debates, while valuable, are best left to other forums, not primarily geared to investors. Rather, it is simply assumed that the fight to stave off the perceived catastrophic effects of global warming will be global in nature resulting in far reaching changes in our everyday behavior to minimize greenhouse gas emissions or scale them back to previous fixed levels, and that policy change including carbon emissions trading schemes, carbon taxes, etc. will have profound effects on worldwide economies and investment in various sectors including alternative energy, pollution abatement, and carbon sequestration.
