Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) builds, finances, and operates for-profit prisons. The
company maintains more than 20 facilities in the US, Puerto Rico, Great Britain, and Australia.
Most of the US prisons are located in the South and Southwest, including 7 in Tennessee. CCA is
#1 in the industry, with a market share of 30% (ahead of #2 Wackenhut, with nearly 25%). The
company markets its prisons to govenment entities to take advantage of chronic overcrowding and
the burgeoning costs of building and operating federal, state, and local prisons.
