IBM Corp. and France Telecom said Tuesday they have teamed up to develop software that will provide low-cost Internet access through a new generation of phones instead of personal computers. IBM and France Telecom said they initially plan to develop the software system for use in France, building on the country's established Minitel network. The system will allow users to connect screenphones - which combine voice and text -- and other devices to the Internet. The companies said they later plan to market the technology worldwide. IBM (IBM) shares were unchanged at 120-1/4 in midday trading. France Telecom American depositary receipts (FTE) rose 3-3/4 to 72-3/4. | ||||||||||||
