Charter Communications Holdings, LLC, owned by Paul Allen is rumored to be going public in October, 1999. The IPO is rumored to be 2 to 3 billion, with filing to come soon. The underwriters are not currently known.

This thread will be used to keep track of the rumors, news reports, filings, IPO and eventually the publicly traded Charter Communications.

Paul Allen's info-bahn is a cable route, and Charter Communications -- the #7 US cable company, with 3.9 million cable subscribers in 27 US states -- leads the way. A subsidiary of Allen's Vulcan Northwest, Charter has merged with Marcus Cable (another Allen purchase). Its proposed purchase of Los Angeles-based Falcon Cable will make Charter the #4 cable company (Time Warner is #1). Charter, founded in 1993, is not just a cable king. In St. Louis and Los Angeles it has partnered with WorldGate (cable-based Internet access via TV) and Wink (interactive TV services). With EarthLink, it offers cable-based Internet access in California, Connecticut, Missouri, and Georgia cities, including Los Angeles and St. Louis.
