Many people who frequent these message boards have come across the posts of a certain self-appointed guru, who for the past few years has maintained at least one thread that contains her "calls." In conjunction with an outside stock picking site, she now has a subscription service, and for a large fee she is offering people the chance to view her intraday calls. Recently, it has come to this poster's attention that her posts on S.I. may tell less than the whole picture, as several subscribers are now complaining--privately and openly--that her S.I. thread loudly trumpets only those few calls that work, while the vast majority that do nothing or are big losers are conveniently forgotten. A cursory glance at her thread appears to confirm that only successful calls are ever mentioned...and very proudly mentioned they are.
In addition, it is interesting that S.I. allows her to use her thread to blatantly advertise and aggressively market her outside pay service, as the S.I. terms of use explicity forbid advertising on this site...yet her daily posts invariably contain dozens of direct links to an ouside subscription-only service, of which she is the direct beneficiary. Why is this?
Since all this would seem to indicate that her thread may exist mainly to entice the unsuspecting and uninitiated into paying her a large subscription fee, I think discussion of this is in order...especially in light of what has happened recently with other internet gurus, whose names we all know.
As a side note, I do not doubt that she has extensive knowledge of the market, nor do I doubt her research capability or committment...those are not the issues for this thread. Nor is this a forum for harassment or personal insults of anyone, including those who are the subjects of our discussion. This is a forum for intelligent discussion of the issues that are increasingly affecting the world of investing, as well as those that specifically face S.I. right now.
