The EU started as a free trade "Common Market" over 30 yrs ago but is pushing towards closer integration.
It has a parliament with elected representatives from member countries.
Many member countries share a common currency, the Euro, and central bank, the ECB.
There are also EU-wide laws that are upheld thru the European Court of Justice and can override the laws in individual member countries.
There is now talk of an EU army being formed.
Is the EU being too ambitious in trying to closely tie together countries that have different customs, different languages and different economies, or does the commonality serve the people?
Are the politicians abusing their status and granting themselves and their cronies cushy jobs or are genuinely running the EU for the benefit of the people?
I guess the answer to both questions lies somewhere in the grey area between the black and white answers that many would jump to when asked.
Let's discuss where the EU is going and what its problems and merits are...
