Introduction Compact

Let us be honest: We DO believe that we are morally superior; which is to say, we believe that we treat other people better than religious people treat other people. The empirical evidence is plain: Atheists are far under-represented in the prison population compared to religious groups--relative to their slice of the population pie. And of course it simply makes sense that a morality based on compassion, reason, and an intelligent grasp of the commonality and mutual needs of humanity should offer more cooperation and assistance than a morality based strictly on the self-interest and irrationality of “Chosen People” from one or another tribal group bowing to some imaginary being in an imaginary supernatural realm. Such self-serving obeisance simply degrades humanity and belies any claims to true compassion or empathy.

This thread is to celebrate the joy of reason and free thinking and to comment intelligently on any matter under the sun! Especially to point out the daily propaganda and demonising and foolishness that one sees coming from immoral people (such as the ugly lie engineered by that Republican woman on that Fox “News” (NOT!) debate about Planned Parenthood). Or the incessant lies spread about by the Christian Right against the great and good nurse, Margaret Sanger, to whom all of humanity owes a huge debt for her stance against abortion, and for her fight to make contraception available and legal for all men and women—not just for the rich!

Free thinkers have been demonised and persecuted for centuries by “Chosen People” whose underlying motivation has always been racism or a similar excuse for tribal superiority. It is time for scientists and rational humans to celebrate their morality and their leadership in keeping the sheep from butchering one another…
